Powell Breaks New Ground Again

Former England Women's coach Hope Powell has become the first female coach educator within the Professional Footballers’ Association. It is another first for Powell, 49, who in 2003 became the first woman to achieve the UEFA Pro License. Speaking with the press following the announcement of her appointment at the PFA, she spoke of her keenness to develop the next generation of coaches. She added “Hopefully I can be a positive role model for future females who want to embark in a role as a coach educator within this field.” Powell has been a role model for most of her career in fact, having been the youngest ever coach of any English national football team, as well as the first woman and the first black person in that position.
