Klopp Addresses Fear Factor

Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at Liverpool has been heralded as a bright new start for the club, following an indifferent start to the season under former manager Brendan Rodgers. Klopp has been keen to play down expectations, however, and after his first three games ended in draws he highlighted that the players needed to shake off the sense of fear surrounding difficult moments. Speaking after the Reds’ 1–1 draw with Southampton, Klopp spoke about the need for his players to “calm down”, adding “I don’t understand this pressure but the guys feel it. I hope I’m not the only person in the stadium who thought ‘this is not the end of the world’. We can work on this.” Liverpool’s new manager will need to address this “fear” mindset and bring belief back to his players.
