Lessons from the Championship

We are joined by Sean Reed, former first team coach at Fulham FC.  Sean shares some crucial lessons from his coaching journey so far, which has taken him from the academy game to first team.

Sean’s extensive experience has made him a wealth of knowledge.  Some of the key topics we discussed were:

The academy journey – from age appropriate learning, to emerging trends in academy coaching, and how both formal and informal learning have shaped his coaching.

Session design – discovering what players truly need, coaching for the team vs coaching for the individual, integrating sports science into training.

The Championship – some of the key challenges in moving from academy football to the first team, the impact of culture and environment on first team players, and some key lessons from working alongside Roy Hodgson and Kit Symons.
